Big things are happening for the City of Phoenix Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) 35th Avenue/Van Buren Street corridor! The project team is hard at work bringing this exciting transit investment one step closer to reality.

Recently, the team completed the 15% design plans for the 35th Avenue segment and is now focused on developing the 15% design plans for Van Buren Street. These preliminary design efforts help lay the groundwork for a transit system that will connect people to jobs, schools, healthcare, entertainment, and everything in between.

So, what's next?

The next major milestone is selecting a consultant to move the project into final design. During this phase, the project team will continue refining station locations, roadway improvements, transit operations, and connections for people walking, biking, and riding transit. Each step brings the vision for BRT into focus.

The goal is simple: Create a fast, frequent, and reliable transit experience that works for the community along the corridor. As design progresses, community feedback will continue to play an important role in shaping a system that reflects the needs, priorities and lifestyles of the people who live, work and travel within Phoenix.

Looking ahead, construction is anticipated to begin in 2029, with BRT service expected to launch in 2031. While there is still work to be done, the project team is steadily moving forward, and we are excited about what is ahead for the 35th Avenue/Van Buren Street corridor.

Stay tuned as we continue bringing Bus Rapid Transit to Phoenix, one milestone at a time!
