Here’s a look at where we left off!
Phoenix BRT Program Team
Hello again! For those who are new to the MeetPhoenixBRT.com website, we are happy you can join us! Dedicated to the Phoenix Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Program, this website has the most current information.
The BRT team would like to share some highlights from the last round of community engagement from spring 2023. Our carefully planned and executed efforts to inform and educate the community and its stakeholders were tremendously successful. We used 14 different communication tools, distributed more than 35 unique notifications across various channels, and connected with more than 6,000 community members including residents and businesses through two public and one virtual meeting, multiple community events, surveys, canvassing, and online websites/tools.
Additionally, the results of the second corridor-specific survey are in! The survey focused on BRT preferences along the corridor. The results showed that the top three factors the public wants us to take into consideration when evaluating BRT alternatives are:
1. Travel time
2. Pedestrian and bike connections
3. Transit network compatibility
On options to place BRT in the center of the roadway or on the side, the preference was for center (called “center-running”). Those who chose it liked that BRT buses would travel in their own, dedicated lane (not in general-purpose lanes) and that the stations provide a safe place for pedestrians. Finally, most survey respondents said they’d give up some general-purpose lanes and landscaping to accommodate the dedicated BRT lane.
Over the last year, the BRT team has been working to further develop two options for how BRT can operate in the roadway, and we’ll be ready to share those in spring 2025 for community feedback.
Thank you to everyone who generously took the time to learn more about the BRT Program and participate in the survey! Your input matters and we are looking forward to connecting with you again!
